You get a design patent for the creative aspects of your product such as the design, the colour or the shape. It is\u00a0important for manufacturers of industrial design<\/em>\u00a0like furniture or kitchenware because industrial design often does not obtain copyright protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A further advantage of the design patent is that it\u00a0can also be filed for very simple<\/em>\u00a0creations like simple pattern of hangings. When it is registered you have the same rights like a copyright owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important: Your design has to have a specific characteristic<\/em> and it must be new to be valid. The application is possible with the German patent and trademark office or the trademarks and designs registration office of the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n
